REVIEW | RealTechniques Brushes by Samantha Chapman

 ** iherb.com : Use code BNC512 for up to $10 OFF **

CORE COLLECTION (iherb) $17.99 | (rrp) $45

What RealTechniques says:
Create a perfect canvas with this collection of coverage essentials.
Includes 4 full-size brushes + case:
- detailer brush: precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas; or, use with lipstick for long-lasting shape and definition
- pointed foundation brush: Use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage
- buffing brush: ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation
- contour brush: delicately applies highlighter to contour or create sheer, soft-focus finish

What I say:
- The detailer brush is great for diffusing aka blending out concealer around a blemish. Can also be use a lip brush as it has a nice pointed tip and stiff bristles.
- The pointed foundation brush isn't so much pointed as round and has a good stiffness in the bristles. It is too small as a foundation brush for me so I use it as a concealer brush for under the eyes and around the nose.
- I love the buffing brush for all different types of foundation; liquid, powder and cream but my personal preference is liquid. (Although the buffing brush works great with powder and cream foundations as well, I personally prefer a flat top kabuki e.g. F80)
- The contour is brush is amazing for .. contouring! The size and domed shape is perfect for getting in the point under your cheekbones and blending the colour downwards. It's amazingly soft and blends the contour colour effortlessly to create a natural appearance.

STARTER KIT (iherb) $17.99 | (rrp) $39.95

What RealTechniques says:
Eye definition goes high-definition with this essential set.
Includes 5 full-size brushes + case:
- base shadow brush: applies a smooth, flawless foundation of color
- deluxe crease brush: soft, oversized design for effortless contouring
- accent brush: designed for precision detailing, spotlighting, highlighting, and smudging
- pixel-point eyeliner brush: tapered cut is ideal for dense or fine eyeliner application
- brow brush: distinctive shape easily defines eyebrows

What I say:
- I use the base shadow brush as a crease brush because it's flat and tapered which is the perfect shape for getting into the crease and blending out the colour. I personally prefer flat eyeshadow brushes to pack colour onto my lids.
- The deluxe crease brush is a fairly dense, round, domed brush with super soft bristles (similar to the P82, if you're familiar with Sigma brushes) It's too big for my crease so I use it to blend out concealer under my eyes and sometimes around my nose.
- The accent brush is great for applying and blending out colour on the lower lash line. It is so tiny and precise, it'll make sure you get the colour to exactly where you want it and nowhere you don't. It's also great to applying a bright colour in the inner corners.
- I'm not really a big fan of the pixel-point eyeliner brush as I feel like the bristles don't come together enough to create a clean line. I much prefer an angled eyeliner brush or the brushes which come with the Maybelline gel lines which is exactly the same shape as the accent brush but half the size.
- The brow brush is very unique as it's angled with an oval shape to easily shape the brows.

FOUNDATION BRUSH (iherb) $7.99 | (rrp) $19.95

What RealTechniques says:
The angled cut lets you build the coverage you need for airbrushed, high-definition results.

What I say:
I personally don't use flat foundation brushes so I use this as a highlighter brush. The angle works great for apply highlighting products onto the cheekbones, under the brow bone and down the bridge of the nose. Best for cream products but also works with powder.

EXPERT FACE BRUSH (iherb) $8.99 | (rrp) $19.95

What RealTechniques says:
Ultra firm and broad for application and blending of cream or liquid foundation.

What I say:
This brush is just a great all rounder brush for the face and can be used for cream and liquid foundation, blush, bronzer and highlighter. As I do not have a blush brush with me I have been using this as primarily a blush brush for even my powder blushes.  I apply blush to the cheeks and then use a sweeping motion to blend it upwards towards my hairline. Because the brush is quite dense, the colour applied will be highly pigmented so don't use too much product! The domed shape and denseness is also great for high coverage foundation and getting into all areas of the face (which is why I want a backup of this brush!)

STIPPLING BRUSH (iherb) $9.99 | (rrp) $22.95

What RealTechniques says:
This dual-fiber brush is the trade secret for creating airbrushed, high-definition results with all types of makeup.

What I say:
The dual-fiber brush is great for creating a natural finish with your liquid and cream foundation. I used to love using duo-fiber brushes for foundation until I found the Sigma F80 but this brush has made me fall in love with them all over again. The brush is also great for creating a really light and youthful finish with your cream blushes (be sure to dip lightly in the pan as not too get too much product!). The size is just perfect for my face but you may find it too big/small depending on your preferences. I would say the size is in between a MAC 187 and 188 and smaller than the Sigma F50.

And...
- panoramic brush case is a 2-in-1 case + stand
- look pixel-perfect even in harsh light
- ultra-plush, synthetic taklon bristles are hand-cut and 100% cruelty-free
- self-standing for easy storage
- extended aluminum handles are light and easy to use

I say:
- The brush case is super convenient for travelling but not very suitable as a stand/brush holder (e.g. on your makeup table) as the elastic holds the brush in quite tightly so you need two hands to pick up the brush - one to hold the stand down.
- While it is handy that the larger brushes are self-standing, I would never really leave them standing along on my table.
- The aluminium handles are light, yet feel very sturdy. The detail/eye brushes are shorter than the Sigma ones, which makes sense as you are working with a closer distance however the face brushes are the same length.
- The brushes in the kits are not available for purchase individually and vice versa.

October Trash | Empties #3

Hi there, Hope you're all doing well! I have been totally lacking motivation to film/blog since I came to a realisation that I just own too much stuff.. in particular beauty/makeup/skincare/bath/body.. so I decided to go on a spending ban / pan project.. but not an actual one because once I start calling it that and documenting my 'pan project' I get bored and stray! Review | Grace Cole Co Body Butter – Watermelon & Grapefruit

Gracecole.co.uk Description:
-       - Luxurious and nourishing, this rich Body Butter is perfect for soothing dry skin and leaves your body temptingly soft and smooth.
-      -  Directions For Use: Massage generously into skin after bathing.

Description on packaging:
Body Butter – Intensive Moisturing Formula
Rich and nourishing, this luxurious Body Butter leaves skin smooth and supple.
Fruit Works – Revive your sense with this cocktail of mouthwatering bath and body treats.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), Glyceryl Stearate SE, Stearic Acid, Dimethicone, Petrolatum, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propyparaben, Benzophenone – 3, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Parfum (Fragrance), Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene.

What do I use it for?
I use it as a body moisturiser.

How do I use it?
I use it as it states on the packaging, after a shower. Sometimes I use it before I got to bed, however considering I shower before I go to bed, it’s kind of the same thing. I apply it all over my body starting from the feet, massaging them a little bit if I can be bothered. Then I apply to my legs using a circular motion, torso, arms and the rest rubbed into my hands.

My verdict?
The body lotion is not as thick as I would like a ‘body butter’ to be. I’d say the consistency is more like a thick body lotion, not as liquid-y but certainly not quite as solid or thick as a ‘body butter’. It will keep you moisturised for a couple of days but for nice, hydrated skin I would apply everyday. It won’t cure very dehydrated, scaly skin but it will temporarily improve the appearance of dry skin.
The scent leans more towards the pink grapefruit side. It’s quite refreshing and pleasant if you like the scent of pink grapefruit, as I do. The scent does smell artificial although not grotesquely so. The scent does last during application and it lingers for a short time afterwards. If I apply it after a shower in the morning I will get very slight hints of this throughout the day but it is quite faint.
I love that it sinks in quite quickly. I am able to get dressed after a few minutes without feeling sticky or uncomfortable.
I believe there are four different scents including Peach & Pear (orange), Coconut & Lime (green) and Pineapple & Passionfruit (yellow).

Availability: Chemist Warehouse, gracecole.co.uk
Packaging: 250mL tub
Pricing: <$5 depending on availability and promotions

Rating:

Although the price is very affordable, it does not provide enough moisturisation for me and it’s not the best scent I have experienced.

Review | CHI Silk Infusion Silk Reconstructing Complex

Farouk | Official CHI Site Description:

  • Leave-in, alcohol free reconstructing treatment
  • Enriched with pure natural silk, wheat and soy proteins
  • Protects the hair against thermal styling and the environment

What do I use it for?
CHI Silk Infusion is a leave-in hair treatment. It can also be used as a heat protector, before using any heat tools, such as dryers, straighteners and curlers. It can be used on wet or dry hair and as long as you don’t use too much, it won’t weigh your hair down or make it look greasy.

How do I use it?
I usually use a 20c piece or .. about the size of a walnut onto damp hair, so not too wet. I usually towel-dry my hair then leave it for about 20 minutes before I apply the Silk Infusion. I do this because I have quite thick and long hair so it does take a little bit of time to dry/become damp. You can apply this straight onto towel-dried hair if it’s not too wet and you might only need a pea-sized amount if you have thin or short hair. If you’re not sure, start with a pea-sized amount and use more if you feel necessary.
I usually only apply to the bottom of my hair, so about the last 20cm. Then any remaining product on my hands I will run through my fringe, just to avoid weighing down or flattening the hair on top.

My verdict?
I loved CHI Silk Infusion for a long time. I have almost finished my second bottle 300mL and only my second because a little bit goes a long way so a bottle lasts for quite some time (I think it lasted almost a year for me). I love how it leaves my hair feeling after a wash and it’s always good to know my hair is being protected from my heating tools. My hair feels soft and silky and remains feeling that way even after straightening. For me, this product replaced my Morocconoil and it’s also more affordable.
Unfortunately, I won’t be repurchasing this after I finish my second bottle as I have found a new holy grail (HG) leave-in hair treatment, Davroe Moisture Senses Argan Oil. I will be doing a full review of the Davroe Argan Oil soon, so please stay tuned for that to hear why I think it’s better than the Silk Infusion!

Review: Daiso Brush Cleanser

Daiso Sponge and Puff detergent is just one of the amazing things at the Japanese discount store. If you're not familiar, Daiso is a Japanese store where everything is AU$2.80. A lot of the things are awesome, most of the things you didn't even know you needed or existed and some of things don't quite cut it. So why is this brush cleanser so great? Because it cleans your brushes so well and effortlessly and leaves no residue what so ever. Let me explain..

How I use this:
1. Pour a small amount of product onto the dirty dry brush. Work this product into the brush until it's covered all the bristles.
2. Remove the excess product by squeezing the brush and you will notice your makeup coming off.
3. Create some foam by rinsing the brush with water and keep rinsing and squeezing out the product until you get clean running water.
Image 4 shows the difference between a dirty and clean brush. The clean brush doesn't feel oily, doesn't smell funny, doesn't dry stiff or seem to damage the bristles.

I have also used this on puffs and more recently on sponges as I am discovering the amazing world of sponges for foundation application (another Daiso gem, but more about that on another post). It is especially good for sponges as I can work the product into the sponge with my fingers. Create some foam and rinse the sponge clean until the water was no longer frothy. Squeeze it dry with a towel and it can be used straight away. I imagine this would be perfect for the Beauty Blender but I don't actually own one (although everyone tells me I must) so I wouldn't know.

Trust me guys, if you have a Daiso near you, run out and grab it. (I know lots of people have discovered this product already!)

The details:
* Available at Daiso stores nationally (I think)
* $2.80

Review: Lush Dream Steam Steam Tab

The Dream Steam Steam Tab (DSST) has replaced the Tea Tree Toner Tab (TTTT) as my favourite Steam Tab (I know they only sell the two now which is a shame, they used to sell other ones like.. Moon and Sun?). I used to love the TTTT because I usually only remember to steam my face when my skin's feeling all congested and gross so tea tree oil is perfect for that with all its antibacterial properties. Even thought I have used Dream Steam many times before but I just realised that it has Tea Tree Oil in it too.

How I use it:
* Fill a bowl on a flat surface (table) with about 1 cup of hot boiled water (200mL), pop in the tab and watch it fizzle away. I will then get my towel, tea tree oil, iPad so the water can cool down a little bit. I add a few extra drops of tea tree oil when my skin's feeling extra yuck.
* Place your freshly cleansed face over the bowl. (Make sure it's free of any makeup or cleanser residue. I like to exfoliate before a steam as well.) If it's too hot, just wait a minute!
* Then, place a towel over your head to create a .. tent? Making sure that it covers your entire head and bowl all around.Relax and enjoy the lavender and rose scent (they are fairly subtle but they're there).
* You can stay in this position for as long as you like until you not longer get any steam. On average I'd got for 15 minutes.
* When you're done, you can splash your face with cool water and pat dry and/or pat dry and use a ' pore tightening' toner such as Lush Tea Tree Toner or even Witch Hazel. I have no idea if this does anything but in my mind my facials work like this: cleanse off dirt, exfoliate dead skin cells, steam out gunk from pores, close pores with toner to prevent gunk from getting in... It's a psychological thing. Please feel free to correct me if you have any scientific information of what a facial actually does.
* When the water is cool, funnel into a reuseable spray bottle (I get mine from Daiso!) and use a facial mist/toner/refreshing spray. Keep it in the fridge and it'll last for a week. Just in time for another facial/steam (:

What it does:
* Tea Tree acts as antibacterial for your skin
* Rose absolute calms redness (and boy do I have redness)
* Chamomile and lavender relaxes and calms the mind
I feel for myself the scent of lavender just instantly makes me feel like the weight has been lifted off my shoulders - a weight that I usually wouldn't even know was there. I usually use the steam tabs when I do a facial and facials usually makes me feel pretty relaxed anyway. The steam might also be good to do just before you go to bed, as part of a nightly ritual once a week or fortnight.

Deets:
* Available at Lush stores and online
* $2.50 for each tab

Ingredients:
Sodium Bicarbonate (Sodium Bicarbonate), Citric Acid (Citric Acid), Perfume (Perfume), Lavender Oil ((Lavandula angustifolia)), Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena), Chamomile Blue Oil (Matricaria chamomilla), Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia), Citronellol (Citronellol), *Geraniol (*Geraniol), *Limonene (*Limonene),Linalool (Linalool), Rose Petals (Rosa damascena)

Liptember!

Yesterday is the first day of Liptember! To raise awareness and money for women's mental health I'm going to be doing Liptember the beauty blogger way. I will try and wear as many different lipsticks as possible in September (that's at least 30 if I only change once a day!) I mentioned Liptember in one of my HumpDay Haul post where I picked up two of Revlon for Liptember lipsticks. I can't wait to Kiss Away the Blues and give some love to some of my neglected lip products (and if you read my lipstick tag, you'll know there are oh too many..).

Follow me on Instagram to see the lipstick changes live in action and I will be blogging everyday in September to document my Liptember journey. Please sponsor me at: bit.ly/peachslip if you can! I'd love to hear your suggestions of what lipsticks I should wear or even purchase if I don't have it in my lipstick collection already. #reallyexcited

#1 NYX Black Label Lipstick - Poem
#2 Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids - Hot Plum

#3 Za Plumper Lips - 07 Candy Pink

#4 Bourjois Rose Exclusif Lipgloss

Liebster Award

MandySharesLife nominated me for the Liebster Award, yay! I had been nominated before on my old blog, but I see they have changed it a little bit so I'm glad to be nominated again (:

The Liebster Award is all about supporting new bloggers and helping them find new readers. Your nominee asks 11 questions which you answer and then you ask 11 questions to your blogger nominees (with less than 200 followers).

The questions MandySharesLife asks:

1) What is your favorite beauty product?
My favourite? How can I pick just one?! I'll have to think about it logically.. My favourite product would be mascara and my favourite mascara would be Maybelline Falsies in Waterproof, so I guess that's my answer.

2) Describe the perfect outfit.
Casual chic. The off-duty model look. So hot. Comfortable skinny black jean (7FAM are the most comfortable I've ever worn), black boots or booties, loose shirt, cardi for casual and coloured blazer for something smarter.

3) What is your favorite song?
At the moment? I'm quite enjoying ROAR by Katy Perry.. I hear it's a rip off of another song but I still like it. Really like Katy more after watching her movie and what she went through with Russell Brand :(

4) Beauty product you can't live without?
I think I answered this already.. but the second product I can't live without is probably BB Cream. A good BB Cream with actual coverage, sun protection and all that good stuff (so probably an Asian one.. just saying.) That's just makeup by the way. I would obviously prefer a good all round cleanser over a BB Cream cos I might not even need it with good skin (I wish).

5) 7 things we can find in your bag?
I'm the kind of person who likes to take everything with them..but if we're talking about beauty, I have a small makeup bag with everything you could ever possibly need - tweezers, q-tip, wipes, bandaid you get the gist but these are 7 things hanging out in the most convenient back pocket.
1. Rimmel Apocalips - Nova
2. LA Colors Auto Lipliner - Fiery Red
3. Guerlain Meteorites Compact - 02 Teint Beige
4. Sugarbaby Frangipani Fragrance de Luxe Rollerball
5. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain - 030 Smitten
6. Bourjois Lipstick - 57 Fuchsia Class
7. ModelCo Heated Eyelash Curler

6) Name your favorite perfume.
If you read my 5 Friday Favourites post last week you'd know at the moment it's Vera Wang Princess !

7) Top 10 favorite clothing stores.
Ooh, I usually shop online so.. (in no particular order)
1. Grand Social
2. ASOS
3. Forever New
4. Zara
5. h&m
6. Ksubi Jeans
7. Nudie Jeans
8. Alice McCall
9. 7 For All Mankind Jeans
10. Topshop
(That was hard. I don't even have money for clothes after my beauty purchases "/ I was just naming brands towards the end.. Can you tell I love jeans?)

8) What is your favorite summer trend?
Mmm I pretty much never follow trends but I love maxi dresses. I will forever wear them until the end of time.

9)Who's your fashion icon?
Olivia Palermo omg love.

10)If you could put someone else in YOUR shoes for a day, who would you choose?
Mmm, not sure. That's a strange question.

11)Name the cheapest online/clothing/beauty stores you've bought from.
Daiso, Sasa, Strawberrynet, iHerb, Cotton On.

My Nominees:
Lady Sapphire Blog
Ashlynne's Treasure Chest
Beauty and Acetone
All Her Pretty Things
BeatheBeauty

Here are your questions:
1. What is your favourite hairstyle?
2. What is your favourite makeup look?
3. What if your favourite outfit?
4. What is one product you will repurchase till the end of time?
5. Luxury or budget: skincare?
6. Luxury or budget: makeup?
7. Luxury or budget: fashion?
8. Favourite beauty shop/brand?
9. Favourite food?
10. Favourite blog at the moment?
11. What makeup junkie are you? (e.g I'm probably a lipstick junkie..)

I look forward to reading your answers! I'd love to know other new bloggers out there so if you're not on the list, leave me a comment below!

August Trash | Empties #2

There's nothing more satisfying for a beauty junkie than finishing a beauty product. When this happens emotions can range from being sad, happy, relieved to good riddance... I hope you enjoy this trash talk and leave me a comment letting me know what I will find in your trash can (:

The Lush lady gave me a sample of this when I went in for some skincare. I think it was okay, I don't remember it being amazing but then again the sample only lasted a couple of day. I wouldn't repurchase because I have a tonne of skincare waiting to be used and it's quite expensive..

2. Maybelline Express Care Eye Makeup Remover
I think this product is discontinued. I picked up a bottle for 50% off at Chemist Warehouse and then I loved it so much, I picked up 3 more. I think I still have 2 backup bottles. They replaced this with the Total Clean Eye Makeup Remover which I haven't tried yet. The two-layered products you have to shake usually works pretty well for me even with waterproof mascara.

To be honest, I change my brush heads every 6 months. I use it at night only and maybe 5 nights a week. I find delicate is best for me all year round as I can use the high setting during summer and lower settings during winter where my skin is more dry and sensitive. The current brush head I have on my Clarisonic is about 2 months old and I don't think I'll be repurchasing soon as I'm trying to see if I can stop using it.

These really did nothing for me. To be fair I have only found one wipe which works for my face - Nivea Pure & Natural. Everything else hurts and in this case, doesn't even remove any makeup. I rarely use wipes anyway so I used these up by wiping my makeup area and swatches.

I absolutely LOVE Liz Earle like omg.. This was a great moisturiser, without being thick or heavy feeling, just so comfortable on the skin. I think I still have one (or two..) jars of this left so I won't need to repurchase this but definitely would when I run out.

I turned to Proactiv earlier in the year when my skin was freaking it out from the move interstate.. It had worked for me when I was younger so I thought I would give it another go. The toner is probably my favourite from the core range - it's alcohol free with glycolic acid. I wouldn''t repurchase because I'm trying to have a more "natural lifestyle" but I would say don't diss Proactiv until you've tried it. True, it's not going to work for everyone (nothing does) but it has also done wonders for a lot of people and you might just possibly be one of them. (Side note: For me, Proactive cleared up my 'wide T-zone' but I still constantly battle with hormonal acne around my mouth.)

These shed like nobody's business and they hurt my face. I've had them for a while and I tried to make it work by washing them with a conditioner and thinking they would stop shedding after a while but nup. These have got to go.

This has nice coverage, SPF25 and I usually use this everyday under my foundation (or alone) as a base. I won't be repurchasing this one in particular because I hear the gold one is more geared towards normal/dry skin and I also picked up the Lioele Tripe the Solution because my friend (who hates BB Creams) raved on about it.

I picked this up ages ago when it was all the rage.. and I totally fell into the hype. Now, I don't think it's anything special at all. Every brand has come out with this type of hair oil (including Aldi) and I find they all work (or not work) all the same. My favourite hair serum is CHI Silk Infusion before heat and Davroe Moisture Sense Argan Oil.

I brush my teeth.. as I'm sure you all do. I prefer the Sensitive one but I've been using the Precision Clean lately (because it comes in a bulk pack at Costco) and it doesn't hurt my teeth or anything.

This is a limited edition Christmas product and I got about 3 uses out of this. It's white and it comes in the shape of a beard/moustache. The scent is pleasant but not overly sweet like floral or fruity.

Don't forget to let me know what you've finished up lately. Thanks for reading!

5 Friday Faves #1

It's Friday, YAY, and welcome to my first ever 5 Friday Favourites! I've been all alone by my lonesome self this week so I have had a bit more time to pamper myself (because I'm not cleaning up after an almost full grown man). You'll notice there are only four products in the photo because the fifth is a virtual favourite aka blogger, youtuber, tv show etc. Hope you enjoy. Let me know your favourites in the comments below!

{I won this product from a V&V giveaway - lucky me ;)}
This body mousse smells and feels amazing.. The mousse is feels very light and blends well on the skin. I thought this tub was going to go so quickly but it's actually lasted quite a while. I'm so bad at describing scents so from the website: "An exquisite blend of fresh lychee pulp, sweetened oolong tea and palmarosa syrup, emboldened with a drop of aged vetiver." YUM (:

I picked this up from iHerb a while ago. I personally wouldn't repurchase this one as I found one at Costco that I can eat as well as use externally. So I have been loving coconut oil in general (not this one in particular). I use it as a night eye cream, eyelash serum, hair mask, teaspoon in my daily morning english breakfast tea, cook with it. There are so many other uses for coconut oil that I haven't explored yet.

3. Lush's Ro's Argan Body Conditioner
OMG the smell. If you love the smell of roses you will love this.. even if you don't you will love this. I actually use this as a body lotion. So after I step out of the shower, I will gently pat myself dry and apply the 'conditioner' onto slightly damp skin. The scent lasts all night and onto the next day you will catch whiffs of it. It'll even make your clothes smell amazing if you get dressed straight away.

4. Vera Wang Princess
{This is a tester I received when I used to work at duty free}
This is a winter fragrance for me. "The scent sparkles with the captivating, sweet, tart aroma of delicate lady apples and the coveted tahitian tiare flower and finishes with a tasty vanilla chiffon" says the Vera Wang Frangrances website.. whatever that means. It smells a little bit fruity and floral but the vanilla adds depth and warmth. Usually not the biggest fan on vanilla but with the apple and flower, just smells special.

I have been watching her videos and following her blog for a while now but I found out about the Balm deal at DJs from her so I just want to give her a shout out. She's from Melbourne and her videos are so relaxed, they're great.

Hope you've enjoyed by first 5 Friday Favourites. I'd love to know what you've been enjoying lately. If you have any product suggestions or full review requests, leave me a comment below. Have a great weekend!
